Candidate forum in early April

The Top Shelf Toastmasters of Big Sky invite voters and candidates to a public question and answer session on Monday, April 2 at 5:30 p.m. at Buck's T-4.

“I’m calling it a ‘get to know the candidates,’ not a debate,” said Tallie Lancey, a member of Toastmasters and a local realtor. “I want the spirit not to be ‘debatey.’ I just want to give these candidates a chance to say, ‘Why we’re running…’”

For now, the forum is focusing on local district elections, most notably the four candidates running for two open seats on the Big Sky Resort Area District Board, commonly referred to as the resort tax board.

Those challenging for the two seats are Steve Johnson, Buz Davis, Sarah Blechta and Craig Smit. And school board candidate Margo Magnant has expressed interest in speaking at the forum, said Lancey.

Whether you’re a local district candidate or need to polish your pitch for funding from the resort tax board, assist with getting your message across.

“If they want to come practice their public speaking they are warmly invited to come on Tuesdays at noon in the Town Center conference room above The Cave,” said Lancey. “It’s a service that Top Shelf Toastmasters would like to extend to the community.”
